The town offers its visitors, nights animated by classical or baroque music, or the "vesperata", other musical manifestation typical of this town. This is where lived the "Chica da Silva", a free slave married to a stone merchant, a historical figure of the region.
Diamantina is also the birth town of "Juscelino Kubitschek", the Brazilian president that initiated for the construction of Brasilia, in the middle of nowhere.
Located to the North of Minas Gerais, Diamantina is a charming city, quite different from other historical cities: its style is « rococo », delicate, refined; standing in a landscape of Arab influences, where original traces of Arab influence, extremely rare in Brazil, can be observed.
Its history is of course linked to the discovery of diamonds in the region of the River Jequitinhonha.
A visit to Diamantina is usually combined with an excursion to the superb Serra do Cipo National Park.

The cave of Maquiné, located to the North of Belo Horizonte, not far from the road leading to Diamantina. This natural curiosity is a real palace of stalactites and stalagmites. It is formed of 7 immense rooms, some of them, receiving natural light.

It is the best-known national park of the Minas Gerais. Its mountains, an extension of the Serra do Espinhaco, are scattered with rivers, waterfalls, valleys and isolated villages. The vegetation consisting of ferns, orchids and quantities of other tropical plants, shelters a very rich fauna: anteater, wolf, monkey, otter, jaguar (rare), and humming-bird etc…
There are numerous options for trekkers.

Morning departure for the Cave of Maquiné, located to the North of Belo Horizonte, not far from the road leading to Diamantina. This natural curiosity is a real palace of stalactites and stalagmites. It is formed of 7 immense rooms receiving natural light, grandiose.

Visit of the cave and lunch on location. We then continue our way to Diamantina.

Visit of town where we can admire remains in the “mazarabe” style, extremely rare in Brazil.

Among others: Igreja of NS do Carmo, Igreja de NS do Rosário dos pretos, casa da Chica Silva, diamond museum, casa da Gloria, casa de Juscelino Kubitschek...

Departure from Diamantina in the morning in our private vehicle towards the Serra do Cipó.

Day dedicated to the visit on foot of the national park (duration of the hike depending on climate and physical condition of the participants).

Return to Diamantina in the late afternoon.

Morning open. Return to Belo Horizonte after lunch. Transfer to the airport or to the hotel.
