Paraty, Ilha Grande & Costa Verde

Stretching between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, the Costa Verde bursts with splendid and charming sites, spread out in the heart of a land rich in history and tradition.
The Costa Verde, literally, the “Green Coast”, a name given in reference to the color of the quiet water of Ilha Grande Bay and its 300 paradisiacal island.
Green also echoes the Mata Atlantica, this tropical forest unique in the world that covered the whole Brazilian littoral before the arrival of the Europeans in the 16th Century, the Costa Verde being one of it’s last refuges.
The heart of the natural reserves and parks of the area represent the last places where the forest can be admired and explored in its almost virgin primary state. The dense forest covers the undulating landscape in a rich green carpet from the Serra do Mar, low altitude coastal range that looks over the bay of Ilha Grande and the 365 paradisiacal islands.

The Costa Verde, a green setting

In this natural setting the gem’s name is Paraty, one of the best-preserved colonial villages in the country and which fame doesn’t cease to grow.
A few kilometers away, hidden in the forest and feet in the water, the fishing villages only accessible by boat or on foot will delight travelers in search of authenticity and a change of scenery.
Cultural stays, trekking, cruise, beaches, gastronomy, the Costa Verde, from Ilha Grande to Paraty, is a treat it is impossible to tire of.
Paraty or a paradise from another place? We are not sure of anything anymore except of one thing: a stay in this area is always too short.
