Algodoal, the Garden of Eden

Belém is located at about one hundred kilometers from the Atlantic. To access the first waves, you must first take the bus (or a private vehicle) that crosses some of the lost villages of the North of Brazil (3 to 4-hour journey).

Further on, even more secluded, is the island of Algodoal, a real paradise, away from everything, an amazing contrast to tropical Belém. Here lies the last frontier of the Amazon at the junction of the green water of the ocean and the muddy waters of unending rivers descending from the Andean mountain range or the central Planalto.

Travel to the Amazon : Algodoal, the Garden of Eden

Between mangrove and endless beaches…

One gets about on foot or by horse carriage (there are no motor vehicles on the island) and electricity has only been installed recently. And at the rear end of this earthly paradise, far from the tiny Algodoal fishermen's village, we find “the Garden of Eden”, a peaceful haven, which offers the traveler an opportunity to truly relax. This dream place is surprisingly almost unknown. A guaranteed different experience in unique scenery with walks in the mangroves to exercise or simply for interest.
We stay in an assorted collection of accommodation, composed of tiny pavilions in a surprising gothic style, surrounding a main building, a sort of big wooden chalet on stilts, built on the beach, facing the sea. This privileged place is almost completely unknown. It guarantees a change in surroundings between doing nothing at all and walks to the mangrove or the interior of the island.

The lost paradise of Algodoal
Day 1 : BELÉM - ALGODOAL

08:00 departure from the hotel in private vehicle in the direction of the North. We cross a few remote villages (3 to 4-hour drive). Upon arrival of our taxi to the pier of Maruda, Véronique welcomes us. We cross to the Island of Algodoal by regular boat. We finally reach Algodoal after a 45 minute crossing. We stay in bungalows at the pousada Jardim Eden.
End of day open.

Meals not included. Night in bungalow.
Day 2 : ALGODOAL - BELÉM

Morning excursion (on foot or by pirogue) in the company of our hosts, Véronique and Evandro, in the mangrove at the center of the island. We then continue on to the rainwater lake "of the Princess", in the middle of the dunes.
The legend says that it is visited by an enchanted princess... that some claim to have seen. The princess met a fisherman that she decided to marry. She therefore introduced herself to him at the lake but her enchantment was double then and she appeared to him as a monster. The scared fisherman ran away, and the marriage never took place.
But it is said that the princess still hangs around, in search of a husband…
Return to the bungalow via the deserted beach.
Meals not included. Night in a bungalow.
Option: extra(s) day(s) at Algodoal, check with us.
